Roofs Built to Handle a New England Winter
A roof in Massachusetts has to deal with everything from coastal salt air to ice dams to summer humidity. We install and repair residential and commercial roofs across the South Shore with materials and methods chosen for the climate, not just the catalog.
Whether you need a small repair after a storm or a full roof replacement, Evano Asphalt Services brings 15+ years of trade experience to every job — and we keep the site clean while we work.
- Full roof replacements (tear-off and overlay options)
- Roof repairs and leak diagnosis
- New construction and addition roofing
- Flashing, ridge cap, and ventilation work
How a Roof Job Actually Works
There are no shortcuts on a roof. Here is how we approach a typical replacement.
Inspection & Estimate
We look at the existing roof, attic ventilation, flashing, and any soft spots. You get a clear written quote that explains what is being done and why.
Tear-Off & Prep
We strip the old shingles down to the deck, inspect and replace any rotted sheathing, and prep flashings and edges for the new install.
Underlayment & Shingles
We install ice and water shield along eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the deck, and then the new shingles in proper sequence — flashing, field, ridge.
Cleanup & Walkthrough
We do a magnet sweep of the yard and driveway for stray nails, haul away the debris, and walk you through the finished work before we leave.
Materials We Use
We work primarily with architectural asphalt shingles — the standard residential roofing material for the South Shore. They handle wind, hold their color, and carry strong manufacturer warranties when installed correctly.
Underneath the shingles, the layers matter just as much: ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys to protect against ice dams, synthetic underlayment across the rest of the deck, and proper flashing at every penetration. Skipping any of these is where leaks come from years later.
Why South Shore Homeowners Choose Us
Roofing is the kind of work where the difference between a 10-year roof and a 30-year roof is mostly invisible — until it isn't. Things we do that customers often mention:
- We replace, not cover up. If a layover (overlay) is reasonable, we will say so. If a full tear-off is the right call, we will say that too. We do not bury problems under new shingles.
- Ice-dam-aware installation. New England roofs need proper ice and water shield coverage and good attic ventilation. We do not skip either.
- Weather scheduling. We do not install on a roof that is wet or about to be. Sometimes that means moving a job by a day — we will keep you in the loop.
- Licensed and insured. Full liability and workers' comp coverage protects you, us, and your home.
Service Area
We roof homes and small commercial properties across the South Shore. Most of our work is in Milton, Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, Randolph, Canton, Dedham, and Hingham. Call us to confirm we cover your town.
Roofing Questions, Answered
The most common questions we hear from homeowners thinking about a new roof or a repair.
How long does an asphalt shingle roof last?
In the South Shore climate, a properly installed architectural shingle roof typically lasts 25 to 30 years. Coastal exposure, sun-side wear, and ventilation quality can shift that in either direction.
How can I tell if I need a new roof or just a repair?
Signs that lean toward replacement: granules collecting in gutters, curling or missing shingles across the whole roof, repeated leaks, or a roof past its expected lifespan. Localized damage from a storm or a single failed flashing is often a repair. We will give you an honest read at the inspection.
What is the best time of year for roofing?
Late spring through fall is the most predictable window in Massachusetts. We can install in cooler weather when needed, but shingles seal best in warmer temperatures, so timing matters for durability.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most single-family roofs are completed in 1 to 3 days depending on size, pitch, complexity, and weather. We will give you a specific timeline at the estimate.
What about ice dams?
Ice dams come from heat escaping into a cold attic, melting snow that refreezes at the eaves. The fix is a combination of good attic insulation, proper ventilation, and ice and water shield at the roof edge. We address all three on a roof replacement.
